With Norwell’s Kier Byrnes quintet on Saturday night, we now know it’s one of the sensational live acts. Quintet was played as the concluding set Rodfest 8 benefit which was held Paradise by Three Day Threshold.
3DT’s is tagged as bluegrass and punk outfit by their own description. Saturday night event was basically 3DT’s CD release event party for their latest album “Straight Out of the Barrel”. The event was benefit for Stonehill College fund to commemorate Scituate’s Gregory “Rod” Moynahan. As many as 600 fans turned up for the show, where the fans were given free copy of the new CD.
The new song from the CD T**** Bar consists of smooth tempo changes with slow segments to add to the punk whacky atmosphere with comic passion and rock fervor. Their earlier song “Chicken Shack” showed strong affinity to Kings of Leon. Lead vocal Taylor did great job on “Lucky My Queen” which combined the rock with country blues.
The Texan country rock band “The Cassayettes” performed for 40 minutes earlier in the show with songs from their latest album “Shake Down the Sun” which was released last November. The Cassayettes are lead by guitarist cum songwriter Glenn Yoder who is known for his witty and evocative lyrics.

The initial tunes of Cassayettes were closer to The Eagles, but their guitarist Mike McCullagh gave some progressive rock with his solos. Strong country roots where evident in most of their songs with garage rock and cranked up tempo. Overall “The Cassayettes” did nice balanced act.

Martina McBride and Trace Adkins are the ultimate rockers
The patriot center was packed to its capacity on Sunday for Shine All Night Tour which had music’s biggest voices Trace Adkins and Martina McBride performing together at the event. Event had optimistic atmosphere with songs about domestic violence and dead kids being played.
Trace Adkins performed for almost 70 minutes singing upbeat singles from past decade. Even though his good old anthems where the most popular amongst the crowd, he was at his best while showcasing “All I Ask for Anymore” and “You’re Gonna Miss This”. He later invited members of Howard Gospel Choir for an encore dedicated to his mama and singing “Higher Ground”.
Martina McBride entered the stage by singing a feel good pop country tune “Ride”. Her 90 minute performance consisted of bells and whistles and number of wardrobe changes. Martina McBride was captivating the crowd with her wonderful voice by singing acoustic cover “Help Me Make It through the Night” of Kris Kristofferson’s. Night was full of fabulous acts where Martina McBride rose 20feet above crowd by perching on a crescent moon shaped giant neon and singing “Concrete Jungle” which was about a child beaten to death by his abusive parent.
Trace Adkins was seen mostly sticking to his latest songs while Martina McBride sang songs that spanned all over her career from her 90’s hit “My Baby Loves Me” to “Independence Day”. And she ended the optimistic mood of the night with “Living on a Prayer”.

Meyerson Rocks to the beats of Tom Jones
Tom Jones has that magical zing that can turn a normal relationship into sexy, irresistible one. And he proved that to every women present in the Meyerson Symphony Center on Sunday night where he performed. Tom Welsh performed for 2 hours in front of full packed Symphony Center. The Welsh pop singer enthralled the audience with his new and old famous songs. He started his two hour performance with numbers from his 2008 album 24 hours and then moving over to U2 “Sugar Daddy” and the Edge.
Tom Jones who will turn 70 this June was seen spoofing about his sex symbol image was dressed in maroon shirt with black leather jacket and black pants. It has become more of a tradition on his concerts where female fans toss their undergarments in the air. At the end of every Tom Jones concert you will find pile on these items on the stage.
The crowd was enjoying his new numbers, specially his versions of Joe Cockers “You can leave your hat on” and Prince’s “Kiss”. He had audience dancing on their feet with his “its Not Unusual”, “What’s New, Pussycat” and “She’s a Lady”. The Meyerson Symphony Center was almost transformed into a huge disco with disco lighting and ten piece band. Tom Jones concert at Meyerson Symphony Center turned out to be grand event, except that few from the audience were disappointed with lighting at the center which was projected on the stage and walls were pretty blurred.
